Synchro Boost + Lv 12 Monster

Can't see how this would really affect game-play anyways, but the question has arisen.

Can a Level 12 monster, such as Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, be equipped with Synchro Boost to increase its level above 12?

    Synchro Boost (Equip Spell )

The equipped monster gains 500 ATK, and its Level is increased by 1.

Re: Synchro Boost + Lv 12 Monster

As far as I know, there is no maximum for a monster's level.  So it would be fine to make a level 12 monster a level 13 monster with a card effect.

A monsters lvl has no  peramiters for right or wrong. If I used 2 Silen Strider on a LvL 1 monster its level will be Negative 1. (for more info on negative lvls wait til dark synchros hit and im sure someone will give a explanation.)

i'm pretty sure that for the time being, you cannot have a monster level below 1.

The Ruling on Demotion states that a monster's level cannot go below Level 1

I do not know about that at a previous Regionals A Synchro Summon was performed between a -1 Monster and a +9 Monster for a Stardust Dragon and the HJ (Mike) spoke to Curtis (who was their as SK) and they both agreed it was a legal move. I will post a Inquiry to the Judge List though for the sake of arguement.

Re: Synchro Boost + Lv 12 Monster

Demotion: A monster's Level cannot go below 1. You can equip 2 "Demotions" to a monster to reduce its Level by 4.

Demotion was introduced in MFC, and as such, this ruling has existed for the better part of 5+ years. A more recent ruling which supports this fact is the following:

"Silent Strider's" effect targets 1 face-up monster. You cannot select a Level 1 monster.

This question is asked with each new level-reducing effect that Konami creates, and has been asked in respect to "Level Conversion Lab", "A Legendary Ocean", "Cost Down" and "Demotion".

The answer still remains the same.

If a card effect would reduce a monster's level to less than 1, it reduces its level to 1 instead.

Dark Synchro's are a terrible example for two reasons:

    1) They only exist in the Anime. As such, if they are ever translated to the actual game, their mechanics may change to prevent confusion.

    2) These cards have a printed negative level. There is nothing in the anime which suggests that you can reduce the level of a Dark Synchro Monster to less than its printed level. Even if you can reduce the level of a Dark Synchro monster below their printed level, they would be the exception to the rule as their level is already less than 1.

This would have no effect on monsters with a positive level however.

No one's been able to take me seriously... But that will change when I beat you at a children's card game.

Jasmine isnt it already states that the dark synchros are going to be printed. (read a topic on ETC on it but it may have been a maybe printed topic.) In any case I guess there was some confusion whther on my part or a incorrect ruling was made.

Re: Synchro Boost + Lv 12 Monster

An official ruling, especially one as old as the ruling for "Demotion" is never incorrect, unless an official errata is released overturning a pre-existing ruling.

As such, the ruling for "Demotion" stands.

With that being said, "Demotion" is a highly obscure card, and unfortunately - it is the only level-reducing card which has this ruling....

As such, it is incredibly easy for player's (and judges) to over-look "Demotion", and come to the conclusion that what happens in this situation is up to the head judge.

It is my personal opinion that the ruling for "Demotion" which states that a monsters level cannot be reduced below 1 should be added to all level-reducing cards and effects (Cost Down, Level Conversion Lab, Silent Strider, etc), as it is common knowledge among experienced duelists and judges that this ruling is universal.... and as such, adding it to all such cards with this effect would make our jobs that much easier.

TBH, I myself was having difficulty remembering the name of "Demotion"..... In my original post, I had listed it as (the equip spell which reduces the equiped monsters level by 2).

Since I could not remember its name, I could not look up its ruling until after another poster reminded me of its name.....

Since "Demotion" is the only card with this ruling, had this situation come up in a tournament, it would have been nearly impossible for me to find said ruling using Netrep, the Official Judges List, or the Individual Card Rulings FAQ (since all such rulings reference the card name).

I meant a incorrect ruling was given in the tournament. I am not questioning the facts you have stated.
